The Old Boat Cafe
The Old Boat Cafe has opened on the River Medway in between Maidstone Bridge and St Peters Bridge.
An historic 1911 former horse-drawn FMC narrowboat called Vienna/Verbena has been lovingly transformed and is now open seven days a week, 10am to 6pm, throughout the summer months.
The Old Boat offers the most fantastic range of coffees, teas and cold beverages alongside locally sourced, fresh or organic food – specifically catering for healthy and ethical food diets.
The cargo hold, which retains many of its original features, has been decked out with tables and chairs, with the boat’s old top plank now a breakfast bar offering panoramic views across the river.
Set inches above the water, you can watch boats, canoeists, geese and swans slowly drifting by. Alternatively, soak up on the sun on the riverside terrace.
The food and drink is Kentish through and through. From coffee roasted in Rochester and tea blended in Sittingbourne to apple juice pressed in Lamberhurst and cheese churned in Canterbury.
